A box of bills, calories and embarrassing to ask for medicines for Christmas. Thanks Parents!

First Course of Christmas Dinner in Basque Country. From top to bottom on the main table: Langostinos, Buey, Txangurro, Lomo, Jamon, and Langostimos and Lomo again.
I start out Christmas Eve early with a 6:11 train to Bremen. The joy overwhelms me…
Greetings everyone from Bremen Airport on this fine Christmas Eve!
Due to a misinformed, frizzy-haired tourist-info employee in Oldenburg, we are now in Bremen Airport waiting for our flight to Bilbao with more than three hours to spare. Thank you frizzy-haired-lady for the excellent information. Thank you for the luxurious four hours of sleep! […]
Ok, so the wheels kind of fell off of the update-train the past four days. The yearly mess of final get togethers as well as some drastic changes in direction at work have had me doing everything but not completing anything. So, the machinery is back in action just in time for us to go […]
This past weekend I traveled to Hamburg with Nora and her parents visiting from Spain.
My trip up from Wolfenbüttel was spent watching “2001: A Space Odyssey” while seated in this tacked-on wagon from the 70’s.
It kind of reminds me of the vision of future travel from a 50’s documentary.
Base camp for our trip was Oldenburg. […]
Looking outward from Bremen’s train station into the encroaching Christmas Market
The Christmas Market in Wolfenbüttel has this new "Forest Bar." Very cool at night albeit not photo friendly for my camera.
A simple “puzzle” nativity scene made by one of the neighbor ladies in my hometown of Platte. Since nativity means “the general time and place of a person’s birth” I find it a really fitting gift from my parents for the Christmas Season. Thanks guys!
The first rounds of Feuerzangenbowle are being served on the opening day of the Wolfenbüttel Christmas Market!
From Wikipedia:
The Feuerzangenbowle is a German Christmas and New Years tradition which translates literally as “Fire Tongs Punch”. The direct translation is “burnt punch”. It is a bowl, similar to a fondue set, which hangs over a small spirit […]
My Christmas tree is officially burning bright with holiday spirit. Due to the missing stopgap of Thanksgiving in Germany, Halloween and Christmas crash right into each other (there were actually overlapping pumpkin / Santa displays in the grocery store). After unpacking the Christmas tree, I got into one my spontaneous cleaning and rearranging modes […]
While celebrating Christmas in Basque Country I’ve been introduced to Olentzero (O-len-chair-O) who is their Santa-esque figure for the holidays.
Kids from the local school came around and sang in front of the apartment…
…and at night they brought another Olentzero around the streets and sang in different parts of the town.
Oh…forget “Merry Christmas” or “Feliz Navidad.” […]
I hope everyone out there’s having a nice day relaxing after the Christmas Festivities. I’m excaping responsibility from the 20th until the 3rd in Erandio, Basque Country in Spain.
My first Christmas in a non-meat-and-potatoes society means my stomach is quite confused. In the States I’d eaten shrimp once…and it was of a non-lifelike-but-rather-foodlike […]
How to have fun on vacation. Go Christmas shopping alone where you don’t speak the language…
Ok, so it’s my own fault. I didn’t get a present that was small enough to bring with and, therefore, to exchange here in Erandio. I took the metro into Bilbao with Nora and we decided to […]
An 11-minute short detailing the numerous fun things you can do with your sedate house kitty cat. This was filmed at 1:30 AM after Christmas Day 2002. My whole family is audible in the clip with myself making random comments about Tigger in the foreground. The camera was mounted inside the cat’s winter cage and […]
