What is Löloff’s?

“Löloff’s” is a five-story house near the center of Wolfenbüttel Germany that usually rents rooms to students either attending the Fachhochschule Braunschweig Wolfenbüttel or doing their internships near Wolfenbüttel.

Why is this FAQ in English?

Most of the students renting rooms at Löloff’s are foreigners and may not understand German very well (some internships and thesis works are done completely in English). English is probably the best choice to help the most people. I’ve also tried to write this in “simple english,” leaving out any sayings or slang. I just want this to be helpful and not frustrating.

Why do you care so much about Löloff’s?

I’ve lived here for over two years now and I’ve answered these questions many times already. It would probably be good to write them down somewhere. I also think that the landlady is a really nice person and deserves a little help. ;)

How many rooms are there, what are they like and what do they cost?

There are a total of 11 rooms at Löloffs. All of the rooms are furnished and all rent prices include everything except use of the washing machine.

The two rooms on the ground floor are actually apartments each large enough for two people. They cost between €300 and €350 per month depending on if the room is rented to one or two people and how long they will be staying. Each apartment has a kitchen/living-room, bedroom, shower and toilet, and are each about 40m².

There are four rooms on the second floor and three rooms on the third floor. The rooms on the second and third floors cost approximately €200 per month and are around 20m². On each floor there is a common kitchen and eating area, a toilet and a shower. Each room also has its own wash basin.

The fourth floor has two rooms which have a common but unconnected bathroom. The rooms are the same size as those on the second and third floors but additionally have their own cooking area.

How much does doing laundry cost?

The washing machine costs €2.50 per load. There is no dryer but there are racks to hang your laundry on in the rooms.

Ok, I’ve moved in. Anything I should know?

First, your address is:

Your Name
c/o Löloff
Kreuzstr 11
38300 Wolfenbüttel
Germany

Keep reading, there are a few other things.

Where can I wash my clothes?

The washing machine is in the basement. To get there: walk in the main house door, walk past the stairs on your right, open the first door on your right with the house key.

Where can I put my bike?

One door to the left of the basement is the bike storage area.

What should I do with my garbage?

Garbage must be sorted in Germany. Things with the “Grüne Punkt” logo on them belong in the yellow bag. Yellow bags are free and are available in the basement. Yellow bag garbage must be left near the mail boxes on the ground floor on Monday nights. Glass may not be thrown out with your normal garbage (the deposit points for glass are rather far away from the house and special arrangements must be made). Your normal garbage can be put in the house’s trash bin anytime. To get there: walk in the main house door, keep walking forward (10m or so) until you can turn right. The trash bin is located under those stairs.

Is there an Internet connection available in the house?

Yes, I run the wireless network for the house. If you knock on my door (only one on the first floor) I’ll get you setup.

Ummm I still have questions!

Please contact me and ask, I will do my best to help you out.
