Zur Zeit bin ich in Deutschland schon 18 Monaten. Offensichtlich ist es mir schon aufgefallen das Deutsch ganz anders als Englisch ist. Zum beispiel, heute im DSH-Kurs (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber) haben wir eine Liste von “Wörter des Jahres” bekommen. Auf dieser Liste steht das Wort “Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz”. Dann dachte ich dass es sehr interessant das längste Wort zu finden wäre.
Also, ohne weiter Verzögern präzentiere ich euch:
Die Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft
So ein riesig Wort gibt es auf Englisch eigentlich nicht. Das längste “Offiziel” Wort, das “etwas als wertlos zu schätzen” bedeutet, lautet: floccinaucinihilipilification. Wowwwwwwww….was für ein Enttäuschung.

I’ve already been in Germany 18 months, enough time to notice that German is just a tad different than English. Today in D.S.H. preparation class (German language university entrance exam for foreign students) we were handed a list of “Words of the Year.” On the list there was “Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz”which means “Law on delegation of supervision duties for cattle marking and beef labeling.” This lead me to look for the longest word in German.
So…without further ado, I present you:
Die Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft
“the association for subordinate officials of the head office management of the Danube steamboat electrical services”
Such a monster doesn’t exist in English. The longest “Official” word, which means “the act of estimating something as worthless” is: floccinaucinihilipilification. What a letdown…
i thought i’d thorw 2 cents in on this one.
i’m not entirely positive, but i dont think floccinaucinihilipilification is the longest word. i do believe that Hasemalphaginnojinglanaporphomism is the longest word we have (but im not entirely sure its actually a word)
at any rate…the definition that i have for it is this: a reversed contradicting metamorph phrased as an anagram.

Wikipedia “the infallible” didn’t know what the deuce you were talking about. Although http://hasemalphaginnojinglanaporphomism.urbanup.com/824026 did by saying the word came from bash.org.
It would be interesting to include those words in a spelling bee, probably can be considered spelling bee marathon.

It’s depressing to hear these words reduced from my foreign stumbling to nice clean rolling, albeit very german sounding, syllables.
What about pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis?
I’m sticking with “Ghonnosyphiherpelitis.” As my favorite longish, slang/made up, impossible to translate word. eep.
